What Can Catholics Learn from Evangelicals?

Increasing numbers of Catholics join the ranks of Evangelicals. Why?haterbook

Evangelical churches capture what many Catholic parishes miss, namely that people are not converted primarily by doctrine, but by hearing God’s Word in a loving, supportive atmosphere.

The primary goal of this book is not to critique fundamentalism and evangelical movements, but to learn from their success as they draw members from non-practicing people, Catholic and mainline Protestant denominations. You may be amazed at what we share in common. After examining the history of Protestant and Catholic fundamentalist tendencies, it can be seen that similarities between the two spring from a twofold basis, namely: common beliefs and a need for a source of authority.

Mission DVDs

callmissionDV 352: A CALL TO MISSION
You may call it “Mission,” or “calling,” “vocation,” or “purpose,” it all boils down to serving people according to Gospel principles.  Traditionally, we picture priests or nuns doing “Mission” in foreign lands, but that’s not the only way it’s done.  This DVD shows foreign and domestic missions being done by lay people as well as religious.  There are many needs, and many ways to do mission, it’s limited only by your imagination.  Watch this to begin Mission Sunday discussions, Confirmation preparations, vocations programs or jsut to get some ideas about how you can help build the kingdom!    21 minutes in length for Junior High, Senior High, Adults

secularity DV 350: SECULARITY AND THE GOSPEL: BEING MISSIONARIES TO OUR OWN CHILDREN
The toughest missionary task in the world today is communicating the faith to our own children. Secular culture, with its many distractions, has some particular resistances to the Gospel even as it contains much that is moral..  Is secular culture post-Christian?  How much is our culture a culture of life and how much is it a culture of death?  How do we become missionaries inside of secular culture, missionaries to our own children?  Rev. Ronald Rolheiser, OMI takes you on a journey of discovery through history and scripture to shed light on our culture and the challenge we face passing faith onto future generations.  DVD is in 3 parts for a total of 170 minutes.  Adult audience

This two-part workshop series is meant to help enrich the meaning, the celebration of and the preparation for baptism for the whole community.   This is an opportunity to reflect on our own call to discipleship and explore what it means for parents to have the primary responsibility of forming their children in the faith.

In the first workshop, we will review the theology of baptism and explore how to bring the whole community into the celebration.  We will reflect on our own baptisms and how that has shaped our lives. We will look at the symbols of baptism and walk through the rite.

In the second workshop, we will look at participants’ current preparation processes and assess their effectiveness in light of these questions:

  1. What are we preparing parents for?
  2. What do you want your parish Baptism Preparation to accomplish?
  3. What do you want your parents to know?
  4. What do you want your parents to feel?
  5. What do you want your parents to believe?
  6. What do you want your parents to do?

New preparation and on-going resources will be shared.
