Revolutionary Parenting: Raising Your Kids to Become Spiritual Champions

 by George Barna, BarnaBooks, 2007.

George Barna, founder of the research group, The Barna Group,   His research for this book lead him to identify three dominant models of parenting:  parenting by default, experimental parenting and revolutionary parenting.   He claims that this book is not like other parenting books.  It is not a list of do’s and don’t’s for parents.  Rather it is lessons learned from the research and interviews with more than 10,00 people.  And there are plenty of lessons for both parents and church leaders as we work together to raise spiritual champions.

So what is a spiritual champion?  Barna describes a spritual champion as “an irrepressible follower of Jesus Christ who accepts the Bible as truth, lives by its principles, and seeks ways to impact the world and continually deepen his or her relationship with God.”

Introducing the Practice of Ministry

Go to "Introducing the Practice of Ministry" pageKathleen A. Cahalan, Liturgical Press, 2010.

Ministry is often examined in terms of who the minister is, not what the minister does. But the vocation to ministry must be understood as a call to identity as well as to practice, one that is rooted in Jesus life and ministry as well as the Spirit’s charisms. In Introducing the Practice of Ministry Kathleen A. Cahalan defines ministerial leadership as carried out through the practices of teaching, preaching, pastoral care, worship, social ministry, and administration for the sake of nurturing the life of discipleship in the community of believers. In her examination of charisms for each of the practices of ministry, Cahalan presents readers with a Trinitarian foundation, noting that the practices of discipleship and ministry have their origin in the very practices of God.
