CONGRESS WORKSHOPS

The 36th Annual Northern Congress to be held September 17, 2011 offers a variety of workshops.
Workshops 7 and 19 deal with adolescents.
Workshops 12 and 23 are on up-coming changes in the Mass.
Workshops 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 13, 21, 24 and 25 offer innovative teaching ideas.
Workshops 16, 20, 26 are for those catechists teaching sacraments.
Workshops 14, 15 and 17  are about prayer in the classroom.
Workshops 8, 9 and 27 pertain to Scripture.
Workshops 3, 11, 28 talk about Saints and Angels.

RCT Monthly Newsletter

Be sure to check out the Resources for Creative Teaching Newsletter page for books, DVDs, videos and other resources available through the Northern Area Office of Evangelization and Catechesis of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.  The first issue for 2011-2012 is posted and gives suggested resources available explaining the upcoming changes in the Roman Missal.  Other topics covered will be Mary, Apologetics, Saints, Prayer, Parables, Lent, Penance and Eucharist.  The new resource page is posted the first week of each month August – April.

2011 CATECHETICAL SUNDAY MATERIALS AVAILABLE ONLINE

Materials for Catechetical Sunday 2011 are available online in English and Spanish at www.usccb.org/catecheticalsunday/. Catechetical Sunday 2011 is September 18, and its theme is “Do This in Memory of Me.”   

Materials available for free online include a reflection on the Eucharist, two catechist/teacher in-services, teaching aids on the Eucharist and Mass, bulletin inserts, family resources and an intergenerational retreat. The Catechetical Sunday website also includes numerous articles in English and Spanish and the document, “Happy Are Those Who Are Called to His Supper: On Preparing to Receive Christ Worthily in the Eucharist,” by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE FOR REVISED ROMAN MISSAL

The Archdiocese of Washington presents eight segments on video or Mp3 for training for liturgical Church interpreters, deaf adult faith formation discussion groups or deaf religious educaiton classes.  Find them at http://www.adw.org/service/NewRomanMissal_InterpreterTraining.asp.

Understanding the Mass: New Resources

Understandidng the Mass:  100 Questions, 100 Answers by Mike Aquilina offers definitions (Mass, Transubstanctiation, Viaticum, Alleluia, etc.), the Biblical and Jewish roots of the Mass, the stuff of the Mass (vestments, vessels, how to recieve, the communion fast, etc.) and explains the parts of the Mass with the new Roman Missal prayers of the people.  Use the table of contents to find the answer to your question or read it straight through. 

Catholic Update Guide to The Mass from St. Anthony Messenger Press gathers the best material from thier best-selling Catholic Updates by noted authors into one small book to use with Adult Faith Formation Groups, RCIA, Sacrament Preparation Groups and Ministry Training.  The Chapters are:  What is the Mass?  Why Do We Go to Mass? and How Do We Go to Mass?

Borrow these books from the Sidney Media Center at sidneymediacenter@catholiccincinnati.org to see if they would be good additions to your prepartion for the changes in the  Roman Missal and enhanced appreciation of the Eucharist.

PODCASTS ON THE ROMAN MISSAL

Beyond the Words, a new podcast for MP3 players or direct download, is availabel through iTunes or at http://www.catholiccincinnati.org/ministries-offices/worship/the-new-roman-missal/media-information.  The sytle is conversational with special guests and interviews.  The changes to the Roman Missal and other cultural and sacramental topics make the episodes appropriate for listeners of all ages.

TEEN SESSIONS ON THE ROMAN MISSAL

  Liturgy Training Publications presents What’s New about the Mass for Teens.  The student booklet is only $1.50 and the Teaching Edition is easy to use for the six sessions.  Each session is about 30 – 45 minutes or can be broken into 10 – 15 minute segments to be used in a regular religious education class.  The Teaching Edition encourages the use of technology such as YouTube, Web Sites, Facebook, etc.  A special QR Code let’s Smart Phone users access accompanying videos to spark discussion.  A booklet for Grades 3 – 7 is also available from LTP.  Preview this resource at the Sidney Media Center at 937-498-1192.
